The Opportunity

In June of 1998, the new President, Dr. Ross Paul, delivered a challenge to the university to focus its energies and renew itself to serve the students of the future. This challenge sets the stage for a period of strategic change throughout the university in which the Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration will play an important role. Building on existing strengths, the new Dean has the opportunity to assist the Faculty of Business Administration in ensuring that its programs are central to the university's mission and in developing its potential within the university and business community.
 

The Position

Reporting to the Executive Dean of the College of Business, Education and Law, the Dean is the senior executive officer of the Faculty of Business Administration and is expected to provide visionary leadership through collaboration and teamwork. The Faculty has one Associate Dean and is organized into six areas of study, each with an area convenor. The areas are; accounting, finance, management science, management and labour studies, marketing, and business strategy and entrepreneurship. There is also an active Advisory Council of eighteen members from the business and professional community.
 

The incumbent is expected to lead the Faculty through focussed development of quality programs in teaching, research, and service to the community and professions in addition to sustaining and further developing quality relations with students and the business community.

The Faculty of Business Administration

The University of Windsor's Faculty of Business Administration is committed to the preparation of men and women for management positions in the global economy. It is also committed to the advancement of business knowledge and practice at internationally recognized standards, and to being of service to the various communities and professional organizations to which it belongs.

There are 1317 full-time and 450 part-time undergraduate students, 75 full-time and 71 part-time graduate students, 42 full-time faculty, and 22 sessional instructors. The Faculty is situated in the Odette Faculty of Business Administration Building which houses modern classrooms and computer labs, and other state-of-the-art facilities for teaching and research as well as food services and the University bookstore.

The Faculty of Business Administration is part of the College of Business, Education and Law. It offers an Honours Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Commerce for University Graduates, Bachelor of Business Studies and Master of Business Administration degrees. Cooperative education options are provided at both graduate and undergraduate levels. There are also a variety of other professional and certificate programs, and provision for completing the Bachelor of Commerce degree through distance education. Joint degree programs are offered in cooperation with Law, Economics, and Computer Science. Other multi disciplinary programs are being developed, as for example, with Engineering.

The Faculty of Business Administration is a large and important component of the University of Windsor and expects to play an important role in the development of the future strategic direction of the University.

The City and Region¸

The area surrounding the city and the University contains some of Canada's best agricultural lands, and is rich in tourism, heritage and recreational resources. The only Canadian city situated south of the United States, Windsor boasts a temperate climate which allows bountiful agriculture and some of Canada's finest vineyards and wineries. Extensive shores on the Great Lakes system provide ample opportunity for water activities. The world's busiest inland waterway, the Detroit River, separates the community of 200, 000 from an urban metropolitan area of more than four million people. At the same time, a short commute by tunnel or bridge connects Windsor to all the amenities of a large city. These include professional teams in all sports, a renowned art institute and symphony orchestra, and continual world-class performances in classical music, theatre, and other art forms.

Windsor is situated in the heart of North American commerce and industry. The headquarters of Chrysler Canada are located here, as well as major production facilities of both General Motors and Ford, numerous machining and tooling companies, and suppliers to the automotive and related industries. Other industries range from food processing to chemicals, and are represented by firms such as Seagram Company Limited, Canadian Salt Company Limited, H. J. Heinz Co. of Canada Ltd. and the city is the home of Hiram Walker & Sons Limited.

This appointment is expected to be effective July 1, 1999 and the initial five year term is renewable for a second term. May 27 1999 : Dean of management - McGill University

McGill University invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the Faculty of Management. The Dean is responsible to the Vice-Principal (Academic) for the supervision and administration of the academic programs, budgets, and all other activities of the Faculty of Management.

The appointment will be for a renewable five-year term commencing 1 June 2000.
Candidates should have demonstrated scholarly and management experience, with proven leadership abilities.
Experience and interest in international programs would be an asset, in addition to facility in French (or a willingness to learn).

The Faculty of Management has a high international profile, attracting outstanding students from many countries around the world. It offers many innovative programs including a Master of International Management for Practising Managers, a Master of Management for National Voluntary Sector Leaders, a combined M.D.-M.B.A. program jointly with the Faculty of Medicine, and a Master of Manufacturing Management jointly with the Faculty of Engineering. The Faculty has a student enrolment of approximately 1,700 at the undergraduate level and 500 at the graduate level.
