The CFBSD, founded in 1976, is the professional association for Deans and Directors of faculties of business and management in Canada. The Canadian Federation of Business School Deans is dedicated to working with its members toward achieving excellence in business education.
Business schools must work to keep their activities more relevant and valuable to businesses grappling with unprecedented transformations in the global economy. New forces are rapidly transforming the strategy, structure and operations of virtually every business.
Today's businesses face increased levels of competition; accelerating rates of technological change and complexity; globalization of business; increasing cultural and demographic diversity; drastic restructuring of political systems; and growing interdependence of organizations, institutions and nations. These changes demonstrate the need to examine every dimension of management education. Communication and partnership with the business community is a key factor for business schools in their efforts to adapt to the new business reality.
The CFBSD currently has a membership of almost 60 university level business schools representing approximately 3,000 faculty members and 150,000 students across Canada, as well as members representing educational and industry associations. Member schools demonstrate the diverse and specialized programs offered in business education nationally. All member schools offer undergraduate programs, over forty offer programs at the master's level, and over twenty provide doctoral education. In Canada, business programs constitute approximately 15% of total university enrolment.
