The University of Ottawa?s Telfer School of Management seeks to recruit an outstanding scholar with expertise and interests in business history for the Father Edgar Thivierge Chair in Business History. The mandate of the Chair is to add the unique dimension of business history to the Telfer School of Management?s teaching and research capacity and to promote the belief that aspiring managers and rising executives must learn from the past in order to move forward and be successful. This is a tenure-track position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor starting July 1, 2011.�

The Chair will direct a research program that will focus on lessons from Canadian, world and business history, as applied to management in the private, public and non-profit sectors, with a view to conducting research and teaching around learning from the past, best practices and strategic learning.� This focus would include a strong global perspective and a broad appreciation for the social, political and economic factors that shape a country. The Chair will also develop and deliver curriculum, based on the background and interests of the Chair, which will enable students to gain the historical context they will need to understand the world that they will face in their roles as business leaders of the future.�

The Chair would potentially be an active participant in one or more emerging research centres at the Telfer School, such as the Centre for Enterprise Development and the IBM Centre for Performance Management, thereby contributing valuable business history insight and leveraging the resources and expertise from the centres.�

Required qualifications:

A PhD or equivalent, superior achievement in business history, a commitment to teaching and graduate training, a strong track record in and a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration, excellent communication skills in either English or French with a passive knowledge of the other official language.
