The confirmed time for the conference call consultation for the Ontario Business School Deans  with the Ontario government  on it's Gender Wage Gap Strategy is  March 22 @ 15h00.  All Ontario schools will have received an invitation to participate (for more information contact [email protected]).

"There is overwhelming evidence of the positive economic and business impacts of closing the wage gap. As part of the Ontario Government’s key economic plan, the Ministry of Labour is developing a strategy to close the gender wage gap. The Gender Wage Gap Strategy Steering Committee has held public consultations across Ontario, met with stakeholders with specific knowledge and is reviewing written submissions received. The Committee has heard many ideas, including: changing workplace practices, enhancing education and occupational choices, re-thinking caregiving leaves, and introducing pay transparency and reporting.

    

As the Committee contemplates their recommendations, there is one area of discussion that Ontario Business Deans can contribute to -- the role in preparing future business leaders to lead the workforce of tomorrow and more importantly, the influential role that business schools can play in effecting social change through relationships/partnerships with major employers. Our discussion dialogue will centre around recognizing Ontario’s gender wage gap, how business schools can have an impact (e.g. increased women in graduate school, building leadership awareness on unconscious bias, stronger career supports to ensure sustaining success in the workplace, encouraging workplace flexibilities) and whether there are current initiatives underway  or potential ideas that can advance Ontario women in business."
