The Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics at the University of Guelph invites applications for a tenured position at the Associate or Full Professor level. The appointment as Associate Dean, Strategic Partnerships is typically for a five-year term, renewable for a second term of up to five years.

The Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics provides a high-quality research, learning and social environment that encourages reflection, curiosity and global awareness, and promotes comprehensive understanding of both traditional and emerging themes in management, economics and related areas. Comprising four primary academic units – Economics and Finance; Management; Marketing and Consumer Studies, and the School of Hospitality, Food and Tourism Management – the Lang School offers a range of well-respected undergraduate and graduate programs in business and economics, including an MBA, MA and MSc, a longstanding and highly successful PhD in Economics and a relatively new PhD in Management shared by the Department of Management, the Department of Marketing and Consumer Studies, and the School of Hospitality, Food and Tourism Management.

Reporting to the Dean, the Associate Dean, Strategic Partnerships (ADSP) is a key member of the LANG senior leadership team and in this role is expected to expand and elevate LANG's capacity for stewarding existing and building new external relationships, LANG's brand-profile and recognition within and beyond the University of Guelph, and oversee and contribute to LANG’s accreditation efforts (including AACSB) and strategic planning. Indeed, we have every expectation that LANG will increasingly become recognized as a globally leading business school, renowned for its commitment to “developing leaders for a sustainable world” and its pillars of “active learning”, “research with impact” and “community engagement”. In this respect, the ADSP will actively and creatively support key strategic initiatives across LANG including (but not limited to): strategic planning, accreditation, marketing and communications, development, alumni affairs, awards, internationalism and government relations.

The ADSP joins the LANG’s senior administrative team, which includes the Dean, Department Chairs, School Director, Associate Director Finance and Operations, Associate Dean Academic and the Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Studies. The ADSP has immediate administrative support from, and responsibility for, the Manager of Marketing and Communications (team of 3), the LANG CSR/Sustainability Coordinator, the LANG International Coordinator, the Manager, Career Centre and Employer Partnerships in the Business Career Development Centre (team of 4), the Accreditation and Data Specialist and the Executive Director, John F. Wood Centre for Business and Student Enterprise (team of 5). The ADSP will also work very closely with the Senior Development Manager and Alumni Advancement Manager, Alumni Affairs and Development, to build relationships with external stakeholders as well as develop and execute clear priorities for fundraising. In addition, the ADSP will be responsible of the oversight of the AACSB accreditation efforts, including supporting strategic planning. The ADSP will also represent LANG on a variety of committees and initiatives that correspond to their portfolio and responsibilities.

Candidates for this position will be dynamic, innovative, engaged academics with an earned doctorate and an excellent scholarly and professional record in teaching, research and service in one or more areas of interest to the Lang School of Business and Economics. Candidates should be committed to working effectively with, and being highly visible and accessible to, key stakeholders, including faculty, staff, and students, and also with alumni, employers, and funders, in enhancing the success of the Lang School and its programs. The ideal candidate will also have some experience in fundraising, human resource management, and planning and budgeting. Knowledge and/or experience with accreditation (preferably AACSB) would be an asset.

Candidates should also be aware of the broader shifts occurring in post-secondary education (PSE) and have the demonstrated ability to anticipate further change (opportunities and challenges), taking such into account strategic planning, quality assurance and advocacy initiatives. They will also have demonstrated inspiring and trustworthy leadership, outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, an open and collegial style, and the ability to effectively champion and advocate for the Lang School. They should also be entrepreneurial and adaptive, and willing to consider new approaches. The ADSP should also have the ability to resolve conflict, bringing a creative approach to opportunity generation and problem solving, the ability to inspire and support others, and the capacity to build and sustain positive relationships with all constituents.
